The Central American Corporation for Air Navigation Services (COCESNA), through its officials Dennis Mejía and Karen Fonseca, from the AIM Operations Center flight procedures design team, together with Copa Airlines (COPA), represented by Captains Donovan Ortega and Ricardo Wong, held a technical meeting in Panama City to comply with the cooperation agreement established between the two institutions.
The main purpose of this meeting was to validate in simulator the new RNP-AR approach procedures developed by COCESNA for the Palmerola and La Mesa airports in Honduras.
The work sessions were held on September 17 and 18, 2025 at the modern facilities of the Copa Airlines Training Center, where the corresponding simulation tests were carried out. The results obtained were outstanding, confirming the accuracy and effectiveness of the new procedures designed.
The RNP-AR procedures represent a significant advance for the region, reducing the miles flown during approaches and improving operational safety at both airports.
Copa Airlines, recognized for its operational excellence, has pilots certified in procedure validation and five state-of-the-art flight simulators, which facilitated high-level technical validation under real operating conditions.
This joint effort between COCESNA and Copa Airlines reaffirms the shared commitment to innovation, efficiency and continuous improvement in Central American aviation, contributing to the strengthening of safer, more sustainable and modern operations for the benefit of COCESNA Member States and the entire regional aviation community.
