On May 27 and 28, the AIG specialists appointed by the Central American States met in San Salvador to form the Regional Aviation Accident Investigation Group (GRIAA) and hold their Fifth Working Meeting, chaired by Capt. Carlos Salazar Sánchez, as GRIAA Coordinator; with the collaboration of Dra. Eveling Arauz and Mr. Elvin Lacayo, on behalf of COCESNA’s Technical Secretariat, in addition to the participation of specialists from ACSA and CENAMER.
The progress, strengths and challenges of the Central American Region in the investigation of accidents and serious aviation incidents were discussed, and all GRIAA members remained committed to continue working towards improving safety and being prepared for any eventuality.
As part of the strengthening of the GRIAA, two (2) specialists from each Central American State participated in this meeting, which will allow for a more robust team, thus multiplying the support required to achieve the creation of this Regional Organization.
The Director and Deputy Director of the ICAO NACC Regional Office, Mr. Melvin Cintron and Mr. Julio Siu, and the National Director of Accident Investigation of the Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Board of Argentina (JIACC), Mr. Daniel Barafani, also participated via videoconference; they acknowledged the work of this working group for the creation of the GRIAA and offered their support to this regional effort.
