In Montreal, Canada, the historic signing of the agreement between the State Aviation Safety Agency of the Kingdom of Spain (AESA), the Services and Studies for Air Navigation and Aeronautical Safety (SENASA) and the Central American Corporation of Air Navigation Services, (COCESNA), took place on September 26, 2019, with the aim of creating a mechanism for cooperation and coordination between the Participants to develop and implement joint and complementary initiatives to promote sustainable best practices in the Central American aviation sector, in order to reduce its impact on the environment and ecosystems of the region.

The areas of intervention of this agreement are as follows:

 

  1. Support Central American States in the implementation of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA);
  2. Create and strengthen capacities in environmental and climate change issues through various training programs;
  3. Strengthen the installed capacities of COCESNA’s Regional Management of Environment and Climate Change; and
  4. Promote sustainability initiatives at the region’s airports.

 

This initiative was signed by Mrs. Isabel Maestre Moreno, representing AESA, Mr. Andrés Arranz Stancel, President and CEO of SENASA, and the Executive President of COCESNA, Mr. Juan Carlos Trabanino Aguirre, in the presence of members of the Board of Directors and COCESNA officials.

 

This agreement was signed during the 40th session of the Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
