The Tegucigalpa COCESNA Lions Club was founded on April 30, 2015, and since its incorporation the founding and current members are part of the largest and most effective service organization in the world, Lions Clubs International, better known as Lions Clubs International (LCI), has a presence in more than 200 countries and geographic areas, has 48,000 clubs and a membership of 1.4 million members.

The idea of forming a volunteer club in the corporation was raised as one of the alternatives to promote Corporate Social Responsibility in 2014, materializing its foundation and international recognition on April 30, 2015, since that date the COCESNA lions have carried out different activities of social projection that have made them obtain important recognitions.

More recently, Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) has donated US$2,784,655 so far to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) in different regions in response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic in a commitment to global health.

There have been many activities silently carried out by these fellow volunteers, but we can highlight the main global causes for which they currently dedicate many hours of service.

Diabetes

Strategic objective: Reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve the quality of life of people diagnosed with this disease.

Diabetes is a global epidemic that increasingly affects more men, women and children around the world. It can cause serious diseases affecting the heart and blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, nerves and teeth. In most high-income countries, diabetes is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease, blindness, kidney failure, and lower limb amputation. It is estimated to affect 629 million adults by 2045.

Share Vision

253 million people are blind or moderately to severely impaired in distance vision.

1.1 billion cannot see up close just because they do not have a pair of glasses.

More than 75% of all blindness and distance vision impairment is preventable.

89% of visually impaired people live in developing countries.

Strategic objective: Prevent avoidable blindness and improve the quality of life of blind and visually impaired people.

Mitigate the Hunger

155 million children under the age of five suffer from stunting due to chronic malnutrition.

1/3 of annual food production is lost or wasted in the supply chain.

Thirty-three percent of women of reproductive age suffer from anemia.

Strategic Objective: To ensure that all members of the community have access to nutritious food.

Environment

More than 3 billion trees in the world.

30% of the earth’s land surface is covered by forests.

More than 15 billion trees are cut down every year.

46 % is the estimated global decline in the number of trees since the beginning of human civilization.

Strategic Objective : To sustainably protect and restore the environment to improve the well-being of all communities.

Childhood Cancer

A child is diagnosed with cancer every 2 minutes.

13% is the increase in the incidence of childhood cancer in the last 20 years.

6 years is the average age at which cancer is diagnosed in children.

More than 90% of childhood cancer deaths occur in low-resource settings.

Strategic Goal: To help those affected by childhood cancer survive and thrive.
