The Covid-19 Coronavirus disease pandemic has had a drastic impact on the airline industry, and airlines have been unable to operate for six (6) months in the Central American Region, which has meant a reduction of more than 90% in COCESNA’s revenues. Unfortunately, the outlook is not at all encouraging, as it is predicted that the recovery of aeronautical operation levels will take several years.
In spite of this difficult situation, and faithful to its policy of financial responsibility and support for its personnel, COCESNA has been able to guarantee full payment of salaries to all its employees throughout the duration of the global situation.
Under this scenario, COCESNA cannot maintain the size of its operational and administrative structure, and it is necessary to adjust to the new global reality.
Within the framework of this restructuring at a general level and in all the countries where COCESNA operates, COCESNA has implemented measures to reduce operating and administrative expenses, and has also had to dismiss employees at a regional level, who have been granted their full labor rights and benefits. This restructuring was carried out based on a thorough study of operating projections for the coming years and resource requirements.
COCESNA has always strived to protect the interests and benefits of its collaborators and will always remain respectful of the laws of each country in which it operates, its Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws and Service Code; therefore, we are confident that, with this new organizational structure, it will be able to provide services to airlines and Member States with the same quality, timeliness and safety as we have always done.
We trust that, with these measures and the support of our collaborators, our firm desire to continue working for the benefit of the Central American Region will be guaranteed, and we will always be ready to adapt to new challenges as they arise.
