On October 19, 2020, a meeting was held between the Central American Corporation for Air Navigation Services (COCESNA) and the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States of America (FAA), in order to carry out an analysis of potential lines of joint work, as well as strengthening the historical cooperation ties between both organizations.
In terms of air navigation services, the future work to be carried out through the expansion of the FAA WAAS network for use in the Central American airspace was highlighted, highlighting the benefits of the SBAS system in the Region.
Likewise, in relation to operational safety, the importance of technical assistance for the different audits of both the FAA and ICAO was highlighted, as well as various projects to be carried out with the FAA Flight Standards Office.
In addition, some initiatives were presented that will be accompanied by the Air Transport Security Administration (TSA) of the United States of America. In terms of accident investigation (AIG), the work to be carried out by the recently established Accident Investigation Management was highlighted, considering a strengthening of capacities and knowledge transfer from the FAA.
In addition, the initiative for the preparation of a Regional Air Transport Development Strategy was presented, which will be promoted by COCESNA through the Air Transport and Environment Management, which could be accompanied by the Department of Transportation and the Department of State of the United States of America. As a transversal component of the initiatives, there is the training and transfer of knowledge by the FAA, both to the Corporation and to strengthen the technical personnel of the COCESNA member states.
