Today, November 12, the Seventh Meeting of AIG Specialists of the Central American region was held in the presence of the Executive President of COCESNA, Mr. Juan Carlos Trabanino, the Representative of the Republic of Nicaragua in the Board of Directors of COCESNA and Coordinator of GRIAA, Capt. Carlos Salazar Sánchez; Representatives of COCESNA Member States, specialists in Aircraft Accident Investigation, Messrs. Shaun Young and Deon Anthony from Belize; Víctor Celada and Julio Godoy from Guatemala; Rafael Rodríguez and Armando Gálvez from El Salvador; Mario Cárcamo from Honduras; Guillermo Guido, Mariano Flores and Ricardo Cano from Nicaragua; and Messrs. Giovanni Villalobos and Harold Ibarra from Costa Rica; together with representatives of ACSA, ACNA and the Technical Secretary from COCESNA.
In addition to projecting a brief report on the work developed as the Regional Accident Investigation Group (GRIAA), the objective of the meeting was to present to the group of AIG specialists the scope that COCESNA’s new Accident Investigation Management Department intends to achieve, always focused on supporting the Member States.
COCESNA appreciated the excellent comments made by the specialists, aimed at improvement opportunities for strengthening the work of the Management and the ideas that, as experts in their field, they have considered should be incorporated into the work plans of the Accident Investigation Management, such as the development of software that would allow investigators to facilitate the tasks of collecting information and evidence in the field during an investigation.
COCESNA’s Accident Investigation Management, relying on the experience of the AIG Specialists of the Member States, will continue working to strengthen operational safety, in accordance with the objectives of ICAO’s Global Operational Safety Plan, which aims to achieve zero fatalities in commercial air transport operations by the year 2030.
