On April 28, 2021, the Forty-sixth Virtual Meeting of the CLAC Group of Experts on Political, Economic and Legal Matters related to Air Transport (GEPEJTA/46V) was held, in which the GTM, representing the State of Guatemala, coordinated the different discussions related to environmental and climate change issues.
GTM, in coordination with the State of Brazil, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), prepared and presented three study notes related to the following topics: 1. Status of CORSIA Implementation in the region and future activities, including discussions on potential adjustments to this plan, 2. Potential of the Latin American region in the development of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), 3. Challenges of the emission unit market in the Latin American region; 4. Follow-up to the feasibility study of aspirational long-termCO2 reduction targets (LTAG).
As a result of the presentation and discussion of this documentation, activities will be developed to learn more about the adjustments that must be made to CORSIA in view of the new challenges presented by the post-COVID19 era, as well as to have a proactive participation of the region in the various studies that will be developed to achieve ICAO’s aspirational objectives in environmental and climate change matters.
Regarding sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), a regional activity will be promoted in which the experiences of different countries and regions of the world in the development of SAF in Latin America will be shared.
