In Guatemala City, on April 29, an important meeting took place between the Executive Secretary of the Coordination Center for the Prevention of Disasters in Central America and the Dominican Republic (CEPREDENAC), Lic. Claudia Herrera, and the Executive Director-CEO of the Central American Corporation for Air Navigation Services (COCESNA) Lic. Juan Carlos Trabanino.

The visit of the Executive Director-CEO to the CEPREDENAC Headquarters corresponds to the COCESNA Strategy to continue establishing alliances with organizations of the Central American Integration System (SICA) to identify potential lines of cooperation and joint work in this regard, both officials exchanged important information on the basis for the identification of early warnings in terms of risks and vulnerability to disasters.

It is worth remembering that various studies place Central America as one of the three territorial areas most vulnerable to extreme natural phenomena. Just a few months ago the region was hit by two phenomena of this type, such is the case of ETA & IOTA, which had high costs in human lives, road structure and particularly in some radar sites and other COCESNA radio aid systems.

At the end of the meeting, it was agreed to establish a technical cooperation agreement with the following scope: Exchange of strategic information in the areas of competence of both organizations and thus guarantee the efficient operation of the Corporation’s services in a safe manner.

Accompaniment of CEPREDENAC to the Regional Management of Aviation Accidents and Incidents Investigation (GRIAA) to strengthen the activities of this management in the different investigations and activities that are contemplated. Establish a training curriculum for courses on climate change and integrated risk management focused on the aviation sector.
