On May 6, COCESNA, within the framework of the implementation of the environmental axis of the EU – Latin America & Caribbean Aviation Partenership Project (EU – LAC APP), through the Air Transport and Environment Management, coordinated a workshop on the implementation of the CORSIA mechanism.

The purpose of this meeting was to review the timeline for compliance with the plan, as well as to learn about the updates that ICAO has made as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is worth mentioning that this activity is within the collaboration framework of the European Union and implemented by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), organizations that advise on the implementation of CORSIA in the region, through the specialized technical assistance of experts belonging to the Spanish State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA).

The session was attended by experts Raul Martin and Juan Ignacio Hermira, representatives of AESA/SENASA; Engineers Giovanni Tobar, Abner Gonzalez V. and Carmen Gonzalez S., from COCESNA’s Air Transport and Environment Management, personnel from the Central American Civil Aviation Authorities, representatives of air operators such as Volaris Costa Rica, DHL Guatemala, Avianca’s representative for CORSIA issues for the region, National Accreditation Entities and Verification Bodies of the Corporation’s Member States.

Among other topics, the experience of the States and Operators in the process of preparing, verifying and checking the Order of Magnitude of the 2019 Emissions Report and the experience of Spain for the same process in the 2020 Emissions Report were presented, this information is key in the process of effective implementation of the aforementioned plan in the Region.
