September 22 to 24, 2021-. Under the EU LAC-APP project agreement, the series of workshops on fatigue management and its implementation for COCESNA Member States continued with the approval of the Technical Committee. This fourth Workshop was divided into three (3) sessions of three (3) days, given by the EASA expert Captain Gustavo Barba.

The objective of this fourth (4) Workshop was to introduce COCESNA member Authority inspectors to the European approach to fatigue safety threats, the scientific principles, industry implementation tools, their approval processes and the surveillance of fatigue management by the Authorities.

The EASA instructor put into practice how to gain awareness of the operational safety risks associated with fatigue, understand how sleep-related physiological processes work, the capabilities and shortcomings of bio-mathematical models, knowledge on how to manage fatigue risk with dual crews and their scheduling, and determine the impact of increased fatigue risk on efficiency.

Practical exercises were carried out to determine:

  • Authority approvals and management process
  • Ability to reason about the overall risk of fatigue in planning Knowledge of good and bad performance indicators (SPIs),
  • Ability to model and analyze reports / incidents / accidents / any scenario.
