November 10-12, 2021.- Under the coordination of COCESNA and its Central American Agency for Aviation Safety (ACSA), within the framework of the EU-LAC-APP Project and with the support of EASA; It was possible to give the Workshop on “Safety Data Protection and its Sources” with the participation of the State Safety Programs (SSP), Aviation Accident and Incident Investigation units (AIG) of the Member States of COCESNA and our Regional Aviation Accident Investigation Management (GRIAA). This workshop reinforces one of the most important pillars of the SSP and AIG processes on the protection of information from its sources and guaranteeing the confidentiality of safety data; with the purpose of maintaining a flow of safety reports from the aviation industry without States taking punitive actions. The objective of the workshop was to underline the importance of the protection of information and its sources for the processes of the SSP and the Operational Safety Management Systems (SMS). Likewise, it was to inform the participants of the main ICAO standards on the matter and the way in which their transposition in the community of the European Union and the regulatory framework of one of its Member States has been resolved; Spain.
In addition, there were practical examples, in the procedures developed in compliance with the normative dispositions to solve the problems of definition of the limits of the protection and the possible interactions that can arise with the administration of justice, the sanctioning activity of the aeronautical authority, and the labor sanctioning activity of the employer and the media.
