SEARCH AND RESCUE

The Air Traffic Control Service in the upper airspace of the FIR/UIR, with an approximate extension of 2,640,000 km2, is provided by the Central American Area Control Center (CENAMER ACC).

The Search and Rescue Service (SAR) provided by COCESNA within the SRR Central America is subject to the regional agreements signed by COCESNA and the member countries of the SRR Central America as well as international standards and recommended methods, in accordance with Article 25 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Maritime Organization (IMO) coordinates worldwide the efforts of member states to provide search and rescue (SAR) services.

In summary, the objective of ICAO and IMO is to provide an effective worldwide system so that wherever an aircraft flies or a ship sails, search and rescue services are available should the need arise.

Coverage
