The members of the AIG Group of Specialists of the Central American Region participated in the “Workshop for the Validation of Aircraft Accident Investigators”, which took place from February 3 to 6, 2020, in Comalapa, El Salvador, and was given by Specialist Daniel Barafani, from the Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Board of Argentina (JIAAC) and Coordinator of the AIG Regional Cooperation Mechanism of South America (ARCM).

The main topics included international regulations, notification and publication of investigations, investigation management, assistance to relatives of air accident victims, case presentations by both the speaker and the investigators, as well as a specific module on the procedure for convening the Regional Air Accident Investigation Group (GRIAA) by the Legal Advisor Dr. Dr. Eveling Arauz Betanco, from COCESNA’s Technical Secretariat.

The workshop began with opening remarks by Capt. Carlos Salazar Sánchez in his capacity as GRIAA Coordinator and Mr. Mario Martínez, Director of ICCAE, representing the Executive President of COCESNA, Mr. Juan Carlos Trabanino Aguirre.

The four-day event for the Investigators also counted with the valuable participation of the Lawyers of the Central American Region, who at the closing of the meeting valued it as very productive, due to the multiple exchanges of experience and knowledge, expressing the purpose of continuing to work for the development of the work of the Regional Group for Aircraft Accidents Investigation (GRIAA).

Closing remarks and words of thanks were given by the Technical Secretariat through the Legal Counsel, Dra. Eveling Aráuz Betanco, followed by a virtual message from the President of the Civil Aviation Accident Investigation Board of Argentina (JIAAC) with a motivational message to the work of the investigators.
