Introduction

The world is experiencing a crisis rarely seen in recent history. The number of people infected and killed by the COVID-19 pandemic has led governments around the world to take extreme health measures to contain the spread of the disease to their entire population.

The Central American region has not escaped these measures, and special attention is given to the generation and proper management of solid waste produced both at home and at work. The easy transmission of the virus and its permanence on objects and surfaces should be considered as risk factors for the development of recovery activities, use and proper disposal of solid waste during the time the outbreak is active.

Based on the above and within the framework of COCESNA’s Green Book, the Regional Management of Environment and Climate Change presents this simple document for waste management during the pandemic, as a small contribution to its scope of action for the containment of the virus, which has been adapted from the BLOG of the Department of Environmental Law of the Externado University of Colombia.

We hope that it fulfills its function and that it can be socialized in the family and friends of the corporation’s collaborators so that more people can join in the effort to responsibly dispose of waste and residues that can increase the risk of contagion in this crisis.
