With great pride for the Central American Region, on February 11, 2021, the Federal Civil Aviation Administration of the United States (FAA), through the Embassy, made an official statement informing that Costa Rica had recovered Category 1 in security. aeronautics. This is the result of a process that began in 2018, which guarantees compliance with the safety standards evaluated through the FAA’s IASA (International Aviation Safety Assessments) program.
This achievement was achieved thanks to the efforts of the DGAC technical team with the support and assistance of the Central American Agency for Aviation Safety (ACSA), which, during this process, worked together on corrective action plans to improve operational safety. of the Costa Rican civil aviation system. In different communications, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation highlighted the support received from COCESNA-ACSA, which at all times showed its willingness to collaborate in the development and implementation of the corrective actions that resulted in this recategorization.
The recategorization of the FAA means a boost for the country in the reactivation of the aeronautical industry, which in turn will have a positive impact on tourism and the national economy. COCESNA congratulates the Member State of Costa Rica for this great achievement, and reaffirms the commitment acquired at the Regional Level to improve the levels of Effective Implementation of the Member States in terms of Operational Safety and Aviation Security.
