On July 22, 2021, the first regional aviation medicine conference was held with the participation of aeronautical doctors and personnel in charge of the licensing area of COCESNA Member States, where Doctors Carlos Velasco and Beatriz Puente from EASA/AESA made a presentation that included the following topics:

  1. ICAO requirements applicable to aviation medicine.
  2. Aviation medicine standards where medical requirements are established.
  3. Implementation procedures applicable to medical requirements.
  4. Planning of training seminars/workshops in aviation medicine.

Subsequently, the content proposal for a workshop based on topics of interest for the Region was analyzed, establishing as an objective to show in a general way the regulations and tools used in the EASA environment, and particularly in EASA, in order to propose a roadmap of activities at the Regional level.

The representatives of the Civil Aviation Authorities showed their interest and agreed on the development of the initial workshop on aviation medicine.

Based on the above, the next August 16, 17 and 18 with a schedule from 7 to 10 a.m. The first aviation medicine workshop will be held; this first workshop will deal with aspects related to the organization of an aviation medicine system, from the authority to the performance of aeronautical doctors, their preparation, training, necessary documentation, among other aspects.

A questionnaire was also shared with the participants in order to adjust the content of the workshop and future activities.

These activities have been carried out as part of the EU-LAC PPP cooperation project and the effort and commitment of COCESNA – ACSA to focus each project for the benefit and strengthening of the authorities of the Region.
