Virtual Meeting August 16-18, 2021.- The first Regional Aviation Medicine Workshop was held, through the agreement of the EU LAC-APP Cooperation Project with the participation of EASA, AESA, COCESNA-ACSA and personnel from the Civil Aviation Authorities of the Region that included Medical Examiners and Licensing Inspectors. This first workshop was generated to cover the needs and priorities of COCESNA Member States in the field of aviation medicine.
The objective of the workshop was in the first instance to share the practices and regulations that exist in the European Union, and how each authority of each State, such as AESA of Spain, implements and complies with the ICAO requirements. The British and Australian regulations were also reviewed, to illustrate how other countries shape their regulations and under which system they are governed.
From this first workshop, it was also possible to find out the needs of each Member State so that, in future workshops, we could address each topic with a regional approach and for the benefit of the States.
Among the issues that were identified and that are a priority to address at the regional level, and that COCESNA-ACSA together with EASA/AESA are working on the development of a roadmap, are:
- Strengthening of the standard corresponding to Aeronautical Medicine.
- Generation of guidance material to complement the regulation.
- Training in the implementation of the standard through the application of the guidelines.
- Workshops in the specialties of Psychiatry, Psychology, COVID 19, Obesity and Certification.
Finally, it should be noted that this workshop, even though it was the first and that its focus was to publicize the bases on the subject of aeronautical medicine, had a great effect on the participants, since they showed great interest in how to generate and/or improve the necessary tools to be able to implement in each Member State, and gradually cover the gaps that are identified.
