May 23, 2022. Under the coordination of COCESNA and its Central American Aviation Safety Agency (ACSA), within the framework of the EU-LAC-APP Project and with the support of EASA, on-the-job training (OJT) on the Certification of Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTD) was conducted with the participation of a first group of Inspectors from the Authorities of Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Guatemala.
The activity was carried out from April 26 to 29 at the ATR-42 Simulator facilities in Cayalá City, Guatemala, by the expert, Captain Gustavo Barba, EASA’s Senior International Strategy Advisor.
The objective of the training was for participants to acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to carry out an FSTD certification process.
Within the framework of the activity, checklists for compliance with the regulations applicable to the Certification of Flight Simulation Training Devices were analyzed and implemented through the performance and evaluation of a series of objective and subjective tests applied to the ATR-42 device by the participants. Likewise, compliance and gap analysis were identified in order to harmonize interpretations; and finally, in a comprehensive manner, the Authorities shared doubts and/or queries for the consolidation of the application of FSTD regulations.
